It belongs to the family of synthetic rubbers, it is a polymer of chloroprene. It exhibits good chemical stability and maintains flexibility over a wide range of temperatures.

It is used in a wide variety of applications, electrical insulation, fluids and elastomeric sheets or membranes, and automotive flashings and fan belts. Its chemical inertness makes it useful in applications such as sealants (or gaskets) and hoses, as well as corrosion-resistant coatings.

It is resistant to inorganic chemicals except oxidizing acids and halogens.
